Overview of Polypropylene Plastics

1. Introduction

Polypropylene plastic (Polypropylene) is obtained by polymerizing propylene with gasoline as a solvent under the action of methane-aluminum and titanium trichloride catalysts under the conditions of 20 atmospheres and 50°C. Its trade name is referred to as "PP", and the English abbreviation is: PP.

2. Identifying features

When uncolored, it is milky white translucent body, soft; the relative density is lower than that of water, and it can float on the horizontal surface; the softening in boiling water is not obvious, the shape does not change, the softening temperature is 110 °C; the hand is smooth, but not greasy, and the texture is firm and good toughness. Brittle fracture occurs when the strip is stretched.

3. Combustion characteristics

It is flammable and can continue to burn after leaving the fire, with a special smell escaping; the tip of the flame is yellow, with little smoke, burning, melting and dripping.
